INTERVIEW CRITIQUE EXAMPLES
Example: Tell me about yourself?
Before Answer:
"What would you like to know?"
Our Comments on her Answer:
This shows a lack of preparation and
self-awareness. You should know from the job
description what the employer is looking for in a
candidate. Your answer should demonstrate how you
have those exact skills.
Our Suggested Answer:
"I have a degree in Computer Science and I
have 3 years of experience in software
development. I have taken on projects of
progressively increasing scope and
responsibility."
Example: What are your weaknesses?
Before Answer:
"I'm a perfectionist."
Our Comments on his Answer:
Trying to present a strength as a weakness is an
easy to see through ploy. An interviewer will
likely not see this as an adequate answer. It is
best to focus on a weakness of modest size that
is not central to the job and for which you are
working towards improving.
Our Suggested Answer:
"I am not as strong with QuickBooks as I
would like so I am reading a book on this
software so that I can improve my skills in this
area."
Example: Do you have any
questions for me?
Before Answer:
"No, you explained everything quite
well."
Our Comments on his Answer:
You are missing a good opportunity to find out
more about this job and to show your enthusiasm.
Our suggested Answer:
"Can you tell me about the
reporting structure? Can you tell me a little
about the other people in the department I will
be working in?"
