Steps to
Writing a Resume
Although
most professionals hire a professional resume
writer, some do it themselves. People whose job
is writing (i.e novelists, tech writers, some
marketing people, editors, etc) have a better
chance at putting together a decent presentation
but anyone can learn aat least the basic steps to
writing a resume.
First
important step to writing a resume: Format and
Presentation is Important
The average resume is quickly skimmed
through. A good presentation will make it easy
for the reader to quickly pick out the most
important points.
If
you are an experienced professional, use a
chronological resume. If not then consider a
functional/combination resume with key skills at
the beginning and a short chronological work
history afterwards.
-
Include your contact info
- Make sure there are no errors - use a spell
check and also have someone review your resume
for mistakes
- Use a consistent format
More
steps to writing a resume: Avoid these common
errors
- Try not to use "I",
"me" or "my" statements; drop
the pronoun to make it more active
- Avoid unneccesary phrases like
"responsible for..." and "duties
included..."
- Do not include personal info, birth date,
marriage and family status
- Do not include a photograph
- Do not include your salary or expectations
