Writing Instructions
When
preparing your resume, consider these points:
- Be concise and to the
point.
- Print it on high quality
paper.
- Leave adequate margins.
- Spelling must be perfect
so use a spell check.
- Be clear and concise.
- Use proper grammar and
punctuation.
- Use a reverse
chronological order.
- Use action verbs to start
bullets describing your experiences.
- Have someone review your
resume before you send it out.
Resume
Outline
A
good resume includes:
Education:
Include your degree/certification; your major and
minor; date of graduation or expected date of
graduation; academic achievements, honors,
awards; any relevant extra-curricular activities
(sports, clubs, committees); relevant courses.
Computer
Knowledge: List computer languages, software,
etc. that you are proficient at.
Work
Experience: Include all relevant work
experiences, whether they are full, part-time,
contract, paid or volunteer. List these in
reverse chronological order (most recent goes
first), list the job title, describe major
duties, employer name, location, and dates of
employment.
Interests
& Hobbies: Include hobbies that you have
and are involved in if there are skills that are
relevant to your career focus (i.e. team sports -
leadership and team work skills).
Community
Service Activities: Indicate community
service related activities you were or are
presently involved with.
References:
"References available n request" will
suffice. (Be prepared to give at least three
professional references).
