Will employers really do a reference check?

Many employers conduct a reference check or pass the responsibility off to agencies that specialize in reference checks.

Why do a reference check?

Employers do not with to make a hiring mistake and one or two quick interviews only gives them a partial idea about you. One exceptional reference may put you ahead of another candidate with similar skills to yours. A bad reference check on the other hand can lose a job opportunity.

Be prepared to provide at least several references.

For a reference check it is best to use two or three professional references such as Managers, Coworkers, Subordinates, Peers, or even Satisfied Customers.
