Labor Market Myths I
need to include every place I have ever worked at
on my resume - The reality is that a resume
is a marketing document designed to sell your
skills to the employer. So it should focus on the
skills and experience that is relevant to the
prospective position - if you have other jobs
that are unrelated then you may wish not to
include them on the resume.
Most
jobs are advertised - The reality is that
companies tend to advertise difficult-to-fill
positions. There is a much larger 'hiden job
market' so you should do your research and send
your resume to companies that have a need for
your skills.
A
good resume guarantees you a job - A good
resume gets you an interview, not a job.
You still have to impress the employer at the
interview stage.
