Resume thank you letter
Are
thank-you notes / letters important?
Absolutely. For many recruiters they are
expected. It makes you look organized and
thoughtful at the very least. It also gives you an
opportunity to play back key points made during
the interview and shows your enthusiasm and
interest in the position
If a recruiter isn't getting many of them then
its another way to distinguish you from
other applicants. On the other hand, if other
candidates are sending a thank-you note, then it
will appear that you lack interest or
follow-through if you do not send a note.
Any opportunity to stay in touch with your
prospective employer is good, because it will be
very difficult for them to remember you a few
weeks after your last meeting.
Try to send it in a timely manner no more
that 5-7 days after the interview. It
doesnt need to be a long letter, just a
simple thank you and a restatement of your
interest in the position. The letter should be
personal, capturing on points in the conversation
where you felt you made a connection.
A recruiter might not always notice if they
dont get a thank-you note from a candidate
but they will notice a poorly written one.
These notes can be even more important for the
sales professional. It shows if you are a person
who is professional and gracious, two very
important qualities in any sales person
developing and maintaining key account
relationships.
