Job Seeker Resume
Q: I sent out 500
resumes this past month, and I had no interviews.
What am I doing wrong?
A: There could be a number of
things wrong but one obvious problem is that it
sounds as though you are not customizing your
resume for each position.
It takes time to send out a different resume to
each employer so most job seekers make one resume
and mass email it to every employer. It's
painstaking work to make 300 versions, but it
gets much better results! If you can demonstrate
that you took the time to research the
organization, demonstrate your motivate to work
for them, and show point by point how you match
the job requirements then you will do better than
other applicants that don't.
To make this mass customization easier for you,
consider adding a cover letter to your resume.
Leave the resume itself alone and use a cover
letter with a format that is designed to be
easily adjusted for each new position you apply
for. If you need help, a resume services company
like Resume Scorecard will have the expertise to
craft a document like this for you.
